With spectacular style and magnificent illumination, Khalifa International Stadium has set a new benchmark for both architectural possibilities and the features it encompasses. More than a stadium, it retains a unique style and aesthetic expression of its own. Developed over six floors with a forecast capacity of 40,000 seats, the stadium features size football pitch, two swimming pools and athletic warm up tracks.
Khalifa International Stadium was built in 1967 to host the 4th Gulf Cup of Nations, and was refurbished to the highest standards in 2005 in advance of the 2006 Asian Games.
Tailored to host major international sporting events, KIS has become one of the proposed venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Stadium is undergoing renovation to be compliant with FIFA’s stadium requirements which include accommodating all seats with sightline and maximum distance criteria as well as providing controlled temperatures and cooling provision for all matches to ensure the comfort of all spectators, officials and players.
